The Engagement

Friday, August 6, 2010 I arrived home from work and knew something immediately wasn’t right when I wasn’t instantly pounced on by our 50 pound mutt mix dog. I asked David where Jack was and his response was that he was at the vet getting his nails clipped. Umm OK so when do we need to pick him up? Dave informed me that we were to pick him up on Monday morning and that I was to pack a bag and plan for the beach. I immediately began in rapid fire mode asking questions, Where are we going? Are we flying or driving? How long a drive? I think I was more surprised that he was able to keep this a secret from me and plan a whole weekend without me knowing anything about it. I packed a bag trying to hide a smile while in the back of my mind having somewhat of a sneaking suspicion as to what this surprise weekend was all about (I even packed nail polish just incase I was going to have to send pictures). Meanwhile unbeknownst to me David was packing the car with groceries, my favorite candies, and filling the cooler with ice, wine, beer, and champagne. We began our road trip and I was still in the dark as to where we were going while I tracked our location on the GPS on my phone. Each exit we drove by the suspense grew thicker. We finally pulled off at the West Palm Beach exit and into the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa. The beach front hotel was gorgeous and our ocean front suite was beautiful. As we waited for our luggage to arrive Dave and I sat out on the patio overlooking the ocean and drinking a glass of wine. I then took a shower to get ready for dinner and once I was done getting ready, David pulled a little blue box out of his pocket and asked me to be his wife while presenting me with a beautiful diamond ring. Of course I said YES! We spent the rest of the weekend lounging by the pool, taking long walks on the beach, and collecting sea shells in which will make an appearance on our wedding day! Let the planning commence!
